Healthy food toddlers will eat | nutritious meals and snacks for fussy kids
Following on from my post about how to get toddlers to eat I wanted to share with you some great healthy food toddlers will eat (or might push around their plate a little!)
It’s worth remembering that a parents role isn’t to force their toddler to eat but to choose the variety of foods that they offer.
Many kids will go through a ‘fussy phase” and it’s perfectly normal for toddlers to develop picky habits.
This phase will last longer for some children than it will for others.
As parents the most helpful thing we can do is to try to make mealtimes as relaxed as possible.
Don’t force, coerce or bribe your toddler to try new foods.
Remove all pressure.
Serve the meal and let your child choose what they eat. (Offer small portions to avoid food waste).
Tips for making healthy food toddlers will eat
With all the pressures of parenting I know that it’s not always easy to provide regular home cooked meals.
However, I’m a lazy cook with a limited budget and if I can do it then you have a pretty good chance of succeeding too!
- Adapt recipes you already know your kids love. Add extra nutrients into your toddlers diet by adding pureed cooked apple or bananas into pancakes.
- Make things easy for yourself. I use two items if kitchen equipment that aren’t entirely necessary but have been so helpful in my attempts to get nutrients into my eldest child!
I use my Nutri Ninja almost daily as it is awesome at blitzing fruits and vegetables into sauces, soups, smoothies and batters.
I also use my stand mixer because it will mix a dough for pizzas and bread as well as batters for cakes, muffins and biscuits.
- Don’t be afraid to adapt a recipe. Your fussy eater may surprise you!
- Get your kids involved with the cooking too. My fussy eater will taste food “like a chef” that he wouldn’t try on his plate.
